Every great enterprise begins with a moment of clarity. RandallNews was conceived in one of the modern era’s few remaining spaces of protected, uninterrupted thought: the brief, seated interval that punctuates the executive day. Management observed that this interval has a natural duration; that the industry’s news products are engineered to exceed it indefinitely; and that no publication had the discipline to respect it.
RandallNews is sized to the interval. One edition, a fixed number of stories, a hard bottom. When you reach the end of the page you have reached the end of the news, and you are free to return to your responsibilities refreshed, informed, and on schedule. The Division notes with regret that its first choice of domain name was unavailable, and declines to elaborate.
Ratified 2026-08-29 by the Division’s Standards Committee (membership: one). The Charter is versioned in the repository like everything else, and every held story on the front page names the line it was held under. A person the sources name as the subject of a public matter — a charged defendant, a named party to litigation, or anyone acting in an official or public capacity — may be named. Withhold names the sources themselves withhold, and the names of minors, victims of sexual crimes, and private individuals only incidentally involved, even if a source names them.
- Headlines and summaries must not assert beyond what the cited sources report. A claim the cited sources contest is reported as contested, not resolved.
- Graphic detail only where it is the story, and at the minimum the story needs.
- No instructions or operational detail that would help someone cause harm.
- No story is a product endorsement, a call to action, or advice — financial, medical, or legal. The desks report; they do not recommend.
- Every story carries its sources. A story whose cited items no longer support it is held, never silently rewritten.
